The sequel that went deeper. Purifying Lugia remains one of the great gaming flexes.

XD: Gale of Darkness (2005) took Colosseum's formula and refined it. You played as Michael (no relation), a kid who snagged Shadow Pokémon to purify them. The crown jewel: Shadow Lugia — a corrupted legendary with an entirely new design. Purifying it was a genuine achievement that took real effort. The purification chamber minigame had you arranging Pokémon in a circle to maximize purification speed.
