Why it’s epic

This is the card that defined playground trading in 1999. Before graded slabs and auction records, there was the kid who pulled a holographic Charizard from a Base Set pack — and every kid on the block knew about it by lunch. The 1st Edition stamp, Mitsuhiro Arita’s roaring artwork, and that 120 HP (enormous for its era) made it the undisputed chase card of the original set. More than twenty-five years later it remains the single most recognized Pokémon card in the world — the one people who never played the game still know by name.

On the card

Pokémon Power — Energy Burn: as often as you like during your turn (before your attack), you may turn all Energy attached to Charizard into Fire Energy for the rest of the turn.
Fire Spin — 100 damage: discard 2 Energy cards attached to Charizard in order to use this attack.

“Spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. Known to unintentionally cause forest fires.”
